"Coalition to Ban Wake Surfing" in bold text with wavy lines and "Protect Lake Waramaug" below.

The Coalition to Ban Wake Surfing: Protect Lake Waramaug is a 501 (c)(4) non-profit advocacy organization established and funded by concerned residents of the towns of Washington, Kent and Warren who believe that our lake is just too narrow and shallow for the sport of wake surfing.  Wake surfing threatens the health of our lake and the safety of the people enjoying this shared resource.

Our guiding principle is that everyone has the right to enjoy Lake Waramaug, and that the rights of a majority of lake users should not be infringed upon by the small minority of boaters who create hazardous conditions on, under, and along the shoreline of the lake.

FAQs:

Do we advocate for banning wake boats? NO! We advocate for banning the activity of wake surfing, which involves wake boats using ballast systems to create enhanced wakes. We have no issue with wake boats continuing to operate in non-wake mode on the lake.

Do you want to eventually ban all watersports like skiing and tubing? NO! We want to be very clear that we support (and enjoy!) traditional watersports. We will not advocate for any change in rules affecting tubing, water skiing, jet skiing or cruising.

Why is Protect Lake Waramaug: Coalition to Ban Wake Surfing a 501(c)(4)? We organized as a 501(c)(4) to ensure that every penny of contributed money can be used to help mobilize support for the ban ordinance.  A 501(c)(3) organization may not attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities. Since our work as a social welfare organization includes substantial political advocacy work, we would not qualify as a public charity, so your donation is not tax-deductible.
